Labor Day 2009 with Simone

A day with Simone starts with a uniquely Simone wake up call-she pokes my closed, sleeping eye with her finger. It is a very effective alarm. My eyes pops open and I stare straight into an impish little face. Immediately she asks me to 'put on my glasses' and 'get Simone milk'. I stumble into the kitchen, with baby on shoulder, put her milk together, and she insists on opening the microwave door, punching in the time and pressing start. Job done, I deposit her back on the bed, or somewhere else where Her Majesty can recline and drink her milk.

I wish the NFL allowed women. The speed at which Simone can dodge the various obstacles in the house, such as furniture, wires, or pillows, and race through the house, is nothing short of stunning. Many times, she is this blur as she scampers from one end of the apartment to the next.

Today one of our friends came over with their daughter who is Simone's age. The difference between the kids is amazing. Here you have this little chatterbox Simone, who can hold a conversation of sorts, plays, runs, and fights, and this other child, who was so timid she hid behind her mom most of the time.

Simone looked very very cute today in her Victorian bloomer outfit. We got some pics of her in it.

After lunch we went for a little walk to the ice cream shop where Simone wanted ice cream 'in a cup'. She ate about half of it and then donated it to her Daddy.

Towards the end of the day she started to get cranky. We decided to give her an early bath. Since it was a holiday I let the bath drag on for quite some time, and we played with her bathtoys and her rubber alphabet set. She identified a bunch of the letters which made me happy. She also was able to do a back and forth on a Hindi nursery rhyme, and managed to identify a bunch of photos on an animal flashcard set that I picked up on Saturday.

She had not had her nap, and as the evening wore on she got quite cranky. Trying to put her to sleep has the reverse effect, where she insists she does not want to sleep. Her Mom then just tells her to lie down. All we need is three minutes of her little head on a pillow and she conks out.
