Simone was the cutest little baby this past weekend. Of course, she is not a baby anymore.
We try to teach Simone about the different things going on in the world, such as Christmas, Halloween, etc. We also try to teach her about our heritage. Neither I nor Rashmi are particularly religious, but we'd like for her to know what it is all about, not be a lost child in the valley.
So we performed a ceremony this past Saturday, to celebrate Indian new Year.
Rashmi got a prayer-in-a-box kit from the local ethnic store, and we both tried to recite the prayers in Sanskrit. Except that the words were written in English, so we both ended up mangling the words.
Simone was very patient through the whole ceremony, and helped out with the various steps, such as cleaning the silver coins, putting tikka on the gods, showering them with flowers, and ofcourse performing the aarti.
But what she did after the ceremony as we were leaving the house to go to a friend's wedding was the cutest. She was holding her doll, and she leaned over to the image of God and the saint that we just prayed to, and she said "Jai Jai! I will give you attention when I come back".
It melted our hearts. Little bunny!
Of course, she doesn't like to be called "Gotlu", "Little Bunny", "Yabbo Yabbo" or other terms of endearment. She says it clearly, "My name is Simone".
She's growing up too fast. :-(
