The family visits Hawaii Part 2 - Goat Farm

I fondly remember my wonderful 8 days in Maui. We got an awesome little condo and enjoyed ourselves very much. In my first post, I left off just before our trip to the goat farm. We had reached that stage where we had run out of major things to do, and so we decided to check out a goat farm. We drove to the main part of the island and then turned down a road that went past the Maui dump and a bunch of rural areas to a goat farm. At this farm, they raise goats for milk. They take the milk and put it into a machine that turns it into cheese by magic. The cheese is quite expensive.

We paid about ten dollars a piece for a tour. The tour started with a group of us walking to a pen where the goats were tied up. The goats eyed us curiously but they were not surprised or anything. Simone was trying to be daring but stayed safely within arm reach of her parents. The woman who was conducting the tour then opened the goat pen and about 100 goats trundled off, humans in tow. Simone reached out and tried to pet any goats that went by. We all followed the goats to the milking area. There is a quid pro quo-the goats get fed while they are being milked, so that is their incentive.

We all lined up to feed the goats, and Simone had a turn as well. Simone then did something that astonished us-she reached into the bucket of goat feed and grabbed a bunch of goat food. It was basically trail mix. She then started to eat it. She still refers to trail mix as 'goat food'. Simone must have been hungry. After we milked the goats, Simone enjoyed playing with the baby goats (kids).

We then walked over to another section where we fed the goats, and Simone enjoyed herself immensely and got very dirty. The tour then ended.
